Visual Art Collection
Curated by Mia Nielson, the visual art works displayed here are the collection of B Street Collaborative.
The B Street Arts Hub is a space for the development of new works in the performing arts. This commitment inspires and guides the contemporary art collection installed throughout the space. Curated by Mia Nielson, the visual art works displayed here are the collection of B Street Collaborative. The pieces all refer to performance in ways that are sometimes overt and others more nuanced. It is a collection that is constantly evolving, and we invite you to keep your eyes and minds open as we explore and investigate the communicative power of culture together.
Featuring works by Canadian and international artists, each work references performance, some overt such as Edward Burtynsky’s photo of the Royal Alexandra Theatre, others more subtle like Shaheer Zazai’s work created in Microsoft Word. Here the artist types the piece in one sitting, never going back to correct mistakes - the making, in itself, a kind of performance. Other works are made by performers, such as Lido Pimienta’s lyrical drawings made while the artist was on tour supporting her 2021 Grammy nominated album Miss Colombia.
